VARIETALS IN MARCHE

MARCHE
Marche is a coastal region hugging the Adriatic Sea and bordered by Umbria to the east and Abruzzo to the south.  This is a region known as well for its crudo, or raw fish, as its verdicchio.  Marche has two DOCGs and eleven DOCs, but the two best known regions are perhaps the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Rosso Conero.

Verdicchio, as a varietal, could be considered the most up-and-coming varietal in Italy right now.  It can offer electric acidity and a clean, crisp profile or can be aged on its lees and present itself with more weight and texture as it ages.
