A name that is used for many different grapes in France, most notable Ugni Blanc. Clairette Blanc, however, was a very popular grape in the 17th and 18th centuries. Known for having a high alcohol content, low acidity and a propensity for oxidation. Today it is still a vital ingredient in the Vin de Pays whites of southern France.
