Picollo Ernesto vineyards are situated at about 260 meters above sea level in Rovereto di Gavi. In this area, hundreds of years ago the cultivation of vines with "Cortese" grapes was started, with the production of a good quality white wine. At first the Cortese grape wine was mainly drunk in the restaurants of the Ligurian "Riviera", but soon it became well known all over Italy. On 26th June 1974, it got DOC certification, greatly increasing its presence in the best restaurants and in Italian and foreign wine shops, achieving in a short time a very high prestige. On 9th August 1998 the "Gavi" became DOCG and today it represents one of the best Italian white wines.
The Picollo vineyards, thanks to the owners' love for their job and to the efforts of three generations, have realized the dream of their founder (Lorenzo Picollo) and with lots of sacrifices have managed to modernize their wine cellars by equipping them with stainless steel barrels at controlled temperature and a bottling machine.
The whole production cycle takes place following the old tradition and the firm belief that good wine comes only from excellent grapes. At present the farm has about seven hectares vineyards with an average age of 25/30years, exposed mainly to words the south and the possibility of being further enlarged. The cultivation of the vineyards is carried on according to traditional methods, without using herbicides.
